BE VERY CAREFUL: You need to declare your cash when you arrive! ALSO make sure you take the RECEIPT for any money you exchange as they will not accept you to exchange back local currency without a receipt, on top of this; they tell you in the customs that you are not allowed to take Tunisian money out of the country... I threw my exchange receipt in hotel (I didn’t know I will ever need it).

Tunis was one of my stops on a longer journey towards West African countries (many are not credit card friendly, so you need to carry cash), a lady in a police uniform or “customs” asked me (how much cash do you have before doing my security checks) and immediately took me to a room and there was another older policeman or “customs” and shut the door and asked me to get all my money out. I had around $1000+Eur1000 and around TND1000, (Exchange refused to change my TND to Eur as I didn’t have the Receipt, I was fine I thought I’ll buy gifts from Duty Free as there is nothing else to do with Tunisian money)... anyways, in the small room they told me they will take half of my money because I didn’t declare my cash when I arrived... after a few calls, they took all my Tunisian Dinars (they didn’t give me any receipt) and asked me to read the customs rules before entering Tunis.. The money limit is very small compared to many other countries in the world.

Thankfully, they didn’t take the rest of my money and I am able to carry on with my trip.

Lesson learnt: never be over confident in preparations and put logical expectations. Logic doesn’t work everywhere but bureaucracy does. This is my visited country number 98 !

Tunisia is a lovely country, I really enjoyed my visit. People are so nice and welcoming.

I hope if airports makes the country’s first and last impressions great!

I was not impressed with the overall outlook of the airport. It is in the delepating state, it looks like it is been run to failure. From the look of it, it has not seen any painting, or a small and simple thing like changing of light bulb that has fused seem a toll order. I do not even want to mention bigger things like transit, buggage handling etc, they are non existing in my view. The place needs a complete overall, it has gone past the tender loving care and cosmetic treatment

Certainly the airport need a little make up..was build on the 70s and it show all his years ..certain parts like the passport controls and security checks are under dimensions and absolutely inefficient and the people's is inadequate for the passengers flow (mainly during the summertime but almost all years long).
Outside you can find any useful indication for an incoming traveller's and tha taxi drivers have the bad habit to try to con all the tourist with fares that are sometimes 6/8 times higher than normal .
Don't approach the bars and shops they're maybe more expensive than in Europe offering a very poor service (airlines passengers are still very rich people's on common imagination)
Only positive thing is that the people is very friendly and helpful, thus you can always ask for any question you should have.

In this ridiculous airport do not expect any friendly staff they are all arguing with each other or on the phone talking to their relatives, from the immigration officer who doesn't smile to the cleaning lady it's unbelievable how all of them behave the same they are all mad and on the phone someone has to kick all of them and bring brand new staff who understand that it's working time and teach them how to smile and not using their freaking phones I have never seen something like this I can't believe this is an international airport

Not impressive. I think it is time for Tunis to have a modern and high tech airport with staff who can deal with tourists and know what a camera is.

    Be careful
They stole our baggage at the airport.
We checked in our baggage but it was never loaded into the plane.
Basic airport, small not many food options as there is only one cafe at the second level -Departures
No free wifi unless you have a Tunisian number and even thats for 15 min. Its pretty old and no such a character to it.
We were confused how to drive into the car park as there are no clear signs posts.
Can hire car and buy sim card, exchange money on arrival.
No flight announcement as such and delayed flights all the time.

Small airport, and just has the basic stuff, the navigation there is so easy, I think they have 2 restaurants and only one cafe, nothing more, but the service there is very fast and good, Wifi needs you to sign in with your number, and it’s just for 15 minutes, be careful when use it!

The airport is small and easy to navigate. Nothing really special about its design though the Tunisian design style is good. Duty free was actually big and offered some good options and discounts.

    3 stars :
1- very secure airport arena, luggage and people are checked twice.
2- old infrastructure and poor decoration .
3- risk of luggage rubbery =>wrap your luggage and keep your laptops, phones and expensive things with you.
4- when you check out .. you get a free mobile SIM card with few free megabytes and minutes to talk !
5- police officers are friendly .. sometimes too much.
6 - Taxi are available .. but they major the price. The price is legally per /km (+1 dinars per big luggage +50% between 9pm and 5am)
7- there is bus every 30 mn to Bizerte town.
8- if you leave Tunis don't forget to fill the information card before heading to the police line.

I can't put into words how disappointed I am with this airport. I left this country 3 years ago, leaving it the best country in the region, by all means. Imagine my frustration when I go back in 2017, and find everything jumping 20 years backwards in time. Rude staff smoking freely everywhere, corrupt and super lazy personal, baggage stealing openly, in total impunity, filth, cig butts and dust everywhere, endless lines everywhere, 100 yeara old working procedures, laughable duty free in arrival, this place is a mess straight out of a freak show. Only thing is customs staff did their best to help me through the process of getting back my DJ equipment promptly (although I had to pay for that with no apparent reason). I'm terribly sad for my country running backwards. I hope for a quick change.

One of the worst airports I have ever visited. Very old fashioned, not enough cafés and pubs etc, the security is by far the worst ever! Expect long queues and people who feel they have priority and try to cut through.

On one of our flights there, we waited for an hour and a half to get through security! Bring snacks, a stool or a bed with you because you'll be in that queue for ages.

Old fashioned and quaint. Tunisian administration seems to be in the way of decent services. Controls are long and poorly executed. Is Tunisia some sort of safe that entry should be so protected ?

Its an okay airport. Time to modernize it. Time to expand it and build another terminal with better selection of duty free, pubs and commerces so transit passengers can feel comfy and entertained!
