A remarkable Gothic cathedral. Beautiful statues! Centrally located in old town.
Beautiful gothic church in the center of the city. Gorgeous pipe organ and colorful stained glasses.
he Cathedral of St Elisabeth (Slovak: Dóm svätej Alžbety) is a Gothic cathedral in Košice.
It is Slovakia's largest church and one of the easternmost Gothic cathedrals in Europe.
The record of the existence of Košice, dating from 1230, is connected with the existence of the rectory church. In the process of the settlement's transformation from a rural community into a town, all its periods of successes and failures have been reflected in St Elisabeth's Cathedral.
According to historical and archaeological sources the present-day cathedral was built on the place of the older temple which was consecrated to St Elisabeth of Hungary as well. It was referred to in the document of Pope Martin V in the year 1283 and in the letter of 1290, which stated that the bishop of Eger Andrew II exempted Košice parish from the dean's sphere of jurisdiction.
Beautiful inside and outside!
Also worthwhile to go up to the tower for only 2 eur! (on the corner)
St. Elisabeth Cathedral is a beautiful cathedral with a special story. Also the architecture is absolutely stunning from the outside as well as the inside, even though from the inside some parts look really new and don't really fit in.
Great building. Freemasonry signs on some of the windows, be sure to take a pic of that :)
Most dominant and beautiful cathedral in Slovakia. Just visit and enjoy the architecture. Looks best in winter with all the lights on.
This Cathedral is one of the biggest Gothic churches in middle Europe, and a must see if you come to visit this city.
The biggest gothic church in Slovakia. Spectacular
Old, post-hungarian Cathedral is great and fantastic, without a doubt! But slovakian organization of sightseeing and their "kindness" are horrible.
Very nice. For 2€ you can go to the top of cathedral
Beautiful cathedral in the middle of the main street Hlavna
For small money it's really nice to go on the top of the tower which offer a great view of kosice
I'm not a religious person, so didn't visit this cathedral for that reason. Regardless of your faith (or lack thereof) it's worth coming here to admire the architecture. The building is beautiful, with great stonework. Definitely worth a visit.
Stunning place, you can climb upstairs to the north tower with the best view over the whole city - worth of fee and a few steps. Whatmore, F. Rakoczi (on of the biggest hungarian persons) down in the crypt.
One of the most famous landmarks in kosice, the cathedral looks stunning from the outside giving a great landscape to the whole area around but from inside isn't as great!
You can request to Climb the minaret for a great top view for the old city of kosice
