Don’t go to them for servicing. It’s expensive and rigid. The housing of my rear gear cable broke. Lady shopkeeper reco-insisted the $195 full servicing as my bike was more than 5 yrs old. After servicing and within 5 rides, the front derailleur wouldn't shift. On exactly 3 mths after the $195 full servicing, I called the shop. On the phone, she rushed to clarify that it would be chargeable at $60. I said I just spent more than $200 (incl parts) for full servicing and this prob occured, how could it be chargeable? She said they had asked me to check b4 accepting the bike. I said it didn’t have prob then and you guys said I could bring it back if there's any. She said the cable may have slacken and that’s part of tuning service. I said I never experienced any such problem in the first 5 yrs of the bike! You can imagine the conversation. I booked the $60 basic service, extremely unhappy. On the appointment day, there was a heavy downpour. I couldn’t go and decided that I would never go again. I found another bike shop who got everything fixed and added a tension tuner with great service at $40.

So what caused the prob? From the full servicing, the end of the cable housing was not capped properly and its reinforcement cables frayed into the shifter. Shoddy work. But it would be a non-issue if the bike was accepted for check without first insisting payment.

Years ago, I had such great experience at their first shop in West Coast that I bought a $1.8k heavily customised Dahon from their boss (Dennis?). He even volunteered to change the cable housings to my preferred color. Now they have a few shops and developed a rigid service policy that is also expensive. It coupled with a salesperson who don’t seem passionate about cycling or customer service and we have a potent mix for bad experience. I’m sure Dennis will read this one day. I believe a good service policy adds tremendously to customer loyalty and word of mouth.

I've been to this shop a couple of times. Mostly it's because they sell some stuff that you couldn't get anywhere else. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and helped answer questions that I have. The only thing I am not down with is their prices. Even servicing bikes seems a bit too expensive for me. I mean you don't have to increase the price of your maintenance fee just because you sell expensive stuff. Other than that, they're pretty okay.

Went to check out the bikes on a quiet Saturday afternoon, guy was knowledgeable about the bikes but not the prices. Turns out he's the mechanic. Same guy also shouted at another customer not to unfold the bikes without supervision (fair enough). When asked to unfold and fold the other bike models he just pointed to the shop window at the far corner and said, it looks like that display bike there...

All in all, shop has the range but doesn't have the customer service to back it up. Perhaps it's more for enthusiasts knowing what they want than me a newbie asking 20 questions...
