Amazing place. Very well organized is recommend placing more enthusiastic tour guides because all we found was only One English speaking tour guide who knew well what and how to talk about the museum. While all the others were avoiding any effort to properly work.
The gift shop is great but needs more care. The whole neighborhood is an amazing atmosphere.

An interesting place in the heart of city takes you back ages. opens the door to the history to the past and to the present of Saudi Arabia. I visited this place long time ago the difference from then Tu now is that this place has been digitised with many rooms containing televisions running movies about the history of the formation of Saudi Arabia. Visit this place to get lost in time and you will be welcomed with the artefacts with clothes weapons used during the time of the formation of Saudi Arabia that is between 1900 to 1960s

Can be much better. The historic site is great but the museum is just a series of LEDs with ppt slides loaded on them. Could've made an effort and really used the historic site to deliver a Greta museum

Very interesting free museum with great story telling line. Careful with the open hours, it has certain times for “singles” and families.

A great historical museum, with organised structure and maintenance. You can learn the history, unification of the Arabs and the hierarchy of the royal family.

Very interesting and unique archealogical and historic site that played a pivotal role in the restablishment of the Saudi Kingdom. We we're lucky enough to have met a fine young man from Scientists Gift, who acted as our impromptu tour guide and host. His generosity and joyful demeanor were a pleasure to experience and I recommend anyone desiring a great local guide to contact them directly.

Very cool this museum, because it talks about the history of the Kingdom of Arabia and its ancestors.
Also inside the Museum has original pieces of antiquity to buy and acquire.

Relaxing way to learn about Saudi's modern history. A balance of written, visual and audio displays so very easily self-guided. Very tidy. Free entry. The square in front with its rock pavings and steps helps to add an air of authenticity before going through the entrance.

Mandate visit for a history buff. The clay and straw mixture fort stands majestically amidst the bustling shopping area of old riyadh. Parking is troublesome. Enough eateries and window shopping options. Worth a visit. Evenings are for families . U can enjoy Hubble bubble facing the fort. Opening times keep changing.ussually closes by 730pm. 30 mins to tour inside . please confirm prior to visit. Remember to walk the lane on the right side of the fort for a unique feel.

This is a must visit place to get familiar with the history of Riyadh and its role in establishing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by the Saud dynasty. A very easy to visit too, even no tickets needed, so just step in through the historic gate (check out the broken tip of the spear of King Abdulaziz which broke off during takeover of the fort from Othoman garrison) and enjoy the little but very interesting exhibition.

Al Masmak is a must for every expat or local to visit if one needs an escape from the modernity of Riyadh. Located near the old district of Riyadh, th fort's site houses historical stuff which explains how Saudi Arabia became to be what it is today. Though small and limited, the place is photographer-friendly. One thing that's bothering me, a common thing in most of Saudi Arabia's museum, is the timing for family visitors and bachelors BUT (an update) the last time we visit the place we've confirmed from the guard that they opened all days both for bachelors and families. It means no more exclusive days for each. Thumbs up to the tourism authorities!
Beside the fort are shops like cafes, small variety stores and souqs that sell antiques, fanoos lamps, jewelry, gold, traditional clothing, "Alladin's lamp, keychains to name a few.

This fortress holds the whole history of Riyadh and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
(as per the guide) Death penalties are executed here, and yes it include a rock and a sword...
If you want to understand this country you must visit Masmak Fortress.
