This is the most impressive museum I've visited in my life. You can either appreciate each piece of art and spend multiple days, or hold a walking pace for hours. It's almost impossible to see everything, and I found myself appreciating the rooms themselves as much or more than their individual pieces.
Amazing, breathtaking place. You can see that every detail was carefully planed. Wonderful place. Its pretty big also. So its not so crowded.
Wow, certainly a must on the tourist list for St P and a guided tour must be more helpful than trying to guide yourselves around this labyrinth of rooms and treasures. The decor is wonderful and the ladies guarding the exhibits keep you on your toes! Don't touch anything, even some of the handrails seem to attract a reprimand! One visit won't cover it and rooms like the gold and diamond rooms need specialist guides so don't assume it's access all areas.
The number one reason to visit St. Petersburg is to visit this museum. In my opinion it's just the best in the world. The building itself is a work of art on its own, covered in exquisite details and sculptures. Inside you'll find anything from Egyptian mummies to Rembrandt paintings. It's been calculated that of you stop in front of every exhibition piece just for 10 seconds it will take more than a year to see everything in there.
Amazing museum in an amazing palace.
A must for every visitor!
Advice:
- Allocate at least 5-6 hours
- Skip the "General Staff Building". There are better museums for paintings.
- Buy online tickets in advance (saves long waiting). Browse to the Russian language page to buy the tickets (25% lower ticket price). A hotel staff can assist you.
The Palace has beautiful rooms, each different and with a theme. Interesting artifacts and paintings.
Even without the paintings, the sculptures and other art, one can wander around the building for ages and enjoy the rich decorations in each room
The most beautiful museum I have ever seen. Another great thing is that there is no distance from the viewer to the pieces of art. You can not touch it but you can get very close to seeing the details, including the pieces of Da Vinci and Michelangelo.
So huge! There are so many rooms it's impossible to see the whole museum in one (or ten!) Day! And every time you think it can't get grander than this, the next room leaves you even more mesmerised! Definitely looking forward to visiting again!
A must-see when you're in St. Petersburg. Like everything in Russia,it ia huge and beautiful and the Hermitage museum itself is incredible. I hope I get a chance to visit again, it was gorgeous. The experience stays with you for life.
