The Hermitage is one of my favourite museums in the world. The building itself is amazingly beautiful, even though it is not well maintained. The location is perfect, right in the center of Sain Petersburg.
I really enjoyed all the art inside, when I went there was a superb temporary exposition with Monet paintings, which I loved. It is a MUST when in the city, do not hesitate going!!

The Palace complex of the State Hermitage is situated on the banks of Neva river, having amazing Baroque architecture, with wonderful collection of paintings and artefacts. Winter Palace, small Hermitage, Old Hermitage, New Hermitage, General Staff building and Alexander Column are part of complex. Sections of Italian Art, English Art, Russian Art, Flemish Art, French Art etc., Classical antiquity, Treasure Galleries, Numismatics, Jordan stair case, Peter Hall (small throne room, War gallery, Peacock clock, Leonardo da Vinci room, Large Throne room, Gold drawing room, Italian sky light hall, the Crouching Boy of Michelangelo, 19th century B.C. statue etc. are must watch. Needs minimum 4-5 hours to visit main areas of the complex and 6 pm is the closing time of Museum.

A must see in Saint Petersburg, but pay attention to the ceilings, floors and doors, which I think are the real stars. Beatiful rooms but the statues and paintings are like any other museum. Had I know beforehand I would have walked through at a faster pace, so I could have had time to visit the Hermitage Storage Rooms too.

To be honest, It is the biggest and the most elegant museum. If you ask to me it is much Better than Louvre in Paris. You need to spend just 4-5 hours to have a nice museum tour for the most remarkable peaces of the art pieces. There is an option while entering to buy an excursion with a museum staff. She was awesome lady , crystal clear English .

Magnificent museum that will take you days to properly visit and study. Really worth a trip to St Pete just for this. Best to buy tickets online as the queues for tickets are really long, and the online process is very easy and straight forward.

Out of 13 Da Vinci paintings in the world, two are here!

The have an Egyptian tomb exhibit as well this season.

Don't be fooled by the long waiting queue at the main entrance. Between the Hermitage and Hermitage Theather buildings there is an entrance for those who bought their tickets online. And, there are ticket vending machines and almost no queue! Bingo.

You can spend a full week there. Beautiful interiors and true masterpieces. The new part housing the impressionists is modern and usually less crowded.

Absolutely love it. I visited 5 times in my three weeks stay.
Buy the tickets inside there are many machines to buy a ticket. Much more quicker then waiting in the line for at least 2 hours.
Definitely not expensive, only $15 to visit such a historic and stunning palace! In Australia an entry to a botanical garden is even more expensive...
    All history, big names,
I sat for hours in front of Monet...
If I could, I would go there every day!
Lovely, helpful staff, and very good security.
I also loved that if you went somewhere and was carrying very heavy bags and coats that we were able to hand them over to a 'closet' like section in the front and they would stay secure and safe. Never, ever like this in Australia!

We have had the good fortune to travel a lot. But i have never seen anything like this place. Take 3 amazing palaces combine it with 6 world famous museums and add the artwork from the Vatican, put it in a building half a mile square, and this is what you would have. Absolutely incredible. Art work was all famous names I remember from school. Sculptures, historical artifact from Greece and Egypt that rival any museum in those countries. People waited in line for hours in the rain to get in. WOW. Would take days to see it all.

Spent over 2 hours in line, in the rain, in the cold. Tourist have to pay twice what locals pay for entrance, that doesn't exactly make you feel welcome... not worth the time and effort.

Incredible collection of art from around the world. Highly recommend to come right after opening at 10.30am to avoid the masses. Buy your tickets at the machine next to the entrances, $700 Rubel for all museums.

The displays and art are amazing, the building is incredible. BUT the audioguide costs as much as the entrance into the museum... what??? People were unhelpful. Only AFTER you buy the ticket it says on it that 'one day' is actually 'one entry' meaning you can't leave for lunch and come back using your 'one day' pass. Then, one person told us we can leave, and upon coming back the woman at the front desk raised her voice and threatened us not to let us back in because we didn't ask specifically HER but someone else. As if I'm born with this knowledge.
But the museum and palace is HUGE and amazing!!?

Definitely Beautiful. It is a really big museum and you will need more than just a day to walk around and discover all the exhibitions. If you are student there are discounts. Every room is too different and beautifully decorated, you will admire not just the art but also the rooms decorations. I recommend this museum
