Vila Rosa is beautifully situated – quiet but not isolated – in an elevated position at the head of a valley that sweeps down to the sea. During the day you may be captivated by the views from the shaded terrace: of sunlight and shadows falling over the hills and tall cypress trees; the village church in the distance; the glittering sea. At night, beyond the illuminated terraces and the velvet darkness of the valley, the twinkling lights of distant Faro present an enchanting spectacle.
There are four generously sized double bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities (all with walk-in showers, two with baths). Much of the interior of Vila Rosa has been renovated recently to provide stylish bathroom fittings and a modern kitchen, as well as new furniture and fittings. Yet care has been taken to retain its original charm and the best characteristics of Portuguese architecture, including the wooden shutters and locally made terracotta floor tiles.
The large sitting room has an open wood-burning fire, roomy armchairs and sofa, and three French windows opening onto the wide south-facing covered terrace that runs the length of the house.
During the heat of the day the covered terrace offers welcome shade, with ample space for eating and for relaxing in comfortable chairs as you enjoy the views and the scent of jasmine and wisteria.
Steps from the covered terrace lead down to the swimming pool terrace, with sun-loungers and parasols, and the built-in barbecue and then into the pretty garden that encircles the house. The vast roof terrace is ideal for sunbathing in privacy and, with its panoramic views of countryside and sea, for watching the sun go down behind the western hills.
