The Villancico Vocal Ensemble is a group of choral music enthusiasts founded in 2009 by the Junior Music Eductors Guild of U.P. Diliman College of Music under the baton of conductor Eudenice V. Palaruan. It formed out of spontaneous music-making during leisure time, which eventually turned out to be an established nonprofit singing group. It is mainly composed of student conductors, professional musicians, and active members from various university and church choirs. Their repertoire primarily centres on early music, Bach motets, and works from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
The Villancico Vocal Ensemble performs regularly in the International Bamboo Organ Festival along with the Musica Sofia and guest artists from abroad. The 42nd International Bamboo Organ Festival held last February 16 – 22, 2017, premieres its first performance as the Junior Philippine Conductors Association’s performing arm, under the musical directorship of Dr. Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng.
The Villancico Vocal Ensemble continues to uphold its mandate to perform choral music in its highest standard and to make it accessible to its growing audience.
