COMPANY PROFILE

Usares Foods started as a family business in Surigao del Sur in the year 2000. Its brainchild, Mr. Leolando “Leo” Usares, has always been searching for pure honey for his family’s consumption. During his quest, he came across with the wild forest honey harvesters from the Manobo and Kamayo communities who braved the forests of Surigao and Agusan, Mindanao in search for beehives. From then on, Leo and the local harvesters formed a partnership wherein the latter supplies pure, raw, and unpasteurized honey for the former’s consumption. Aside from making the wild forest honey as the daily dose of vitamins for the Usares kids, they also used it for cooking and baking especially during fiestas or local gatherings. Leo’s neighbors got amazed by the rich flavor of wild forest honey and started asking where they can buy one. By word of mouth, the goodness of wild forest honey reached more and more neighbors. At first, Leo would gladly share his bottles of honey to his neighbors who paid him with any price amount or sometimes just a plain “Thank you!”, but when the nearby town folks started to order wild honey from him, that was when he started thinking to make it a sustainable business.

Usares Foods further developed and formally introduced to the market its first product, Usares Wild Forest Honey, through government collaborations. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 13 provided the technology in filtering the honey while maintaining it in its purest nature. While the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 13 exhibited Usares Wild Forest Honey in trade fairs in Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon.

Today, Usares Foods is targeting more people in the Metropolis and has rebranded and relabelled to cope with the city’s latest marketing trends. Usares Wild Forest Honey label now bears the term “dugos”, a local term for honey, to introduce itself to the world with a unique name that matches its unique flavor. Last August 25-27, 2017, Usares Foods finally launched Usares Wild Forest Honey with its new packaging at the #CelebrateLokalFair in Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo, Manila. Indeed, it was a successful launch wherein all products were sold out and resulted to orders and increase in demand.

The mission of Usares Foods is to offer pure and raw nature’s products at its finest at a reasonable price by uplifting the living and working conditions of the local partners. Majority of the proceeds of Usares Wild Forest Honey goes to the families of Manobo and Kamayo traditional honey harvesters.
