Mechanics (UP GURO Mathemascian quiz contest):
1. Each participating school will be composed of four (4) students including one (1) alternate from any year level.

• The team must be composed of at least two (2) third year student and the other two (2) may come from any year level.
• The students must be able to present a certification from the guidance counsellor/principal that they are indeed bona fide students of the school that they are representing.
• They must also present a certification of consent signed by their parents prior to joining the quiz contest.
• They are required to wear their school uniform as well as their school ID during the actual quiz contest.

2. A fixed amount of P500 registration fee will be collected from each participating school. Each school is entitled to have at most five representatives, including one faculty-coach and four students.

3. The following subject areas in the high school level are to be covered during the conduct of the quiz contest:

• Mathematics
• Chemistry
• Biology
• Physics

4. The rules and regulations for the quiz contest are as follows:

a) There will be three (3) rounds namely: Easy, Average, and Difficult.

b) Following are the corresponding number of questions in each round:
1. Easy – 12
2. Average – 10
3. Difficult – 8

c) Each question will be scored according to the round’s difficulty. The corresponding scores in each level are as follows:
1. Easy – 5
2. Average – 10
3. Difficult – 15

d) Point accumulation scheme will be followed

e) There will be no elimination in any round.

f) The top three scorers at the end of all rounds will be hailed as the: Champion, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up.

g) In case of a tie, the corresponding teams will have to answer tie-breaking questions. Series of questions will be asked. The only team that answers correctly among the other teams wins.

5) Following are the corresponding prizes for the winning teams:
Champion - One Plaque of Recognition for the school, three (3) gold medals, three (3) Certificate of Merit for the students and P8000.00

First Runner-up- One Plaque of Recognition for the school, three (3) silver medals, three (3) Certificate of Merit for the students and P6000.00

Second Runner-up- One Plaque of Recognition for the school, three (3) bronze medals, three (3) Certificate of Merit for the students and P4000.00

6) The quiz contest will be held at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. The exact venue will be announced not later than a month before the scheduled contest and will also depend on the confirmation of the schools who will participate.
