Unlad Kabayan Migrant Services Foundation started as a project out of Asian Migrant Centre in Hong Kong, to address the root causes of Filipina out-migration, and create structures that would make it possible for Filipina migrant workers working overseas to create more job and business options at home. The main ways that Unlad Kabayan seeks to make this structural change possible is by mobilizing savings and other resources of migrant workers and local communities and to invest in local enterprises that help to build and sustain vibrant local economies in the country. This strategy is called “Migrant Savings and Alternative Investments (MSAI)”.
Unlad Kabayan was established in the Philippines and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1996. It is accredited in local governments of Iligan City, Linamon and Kolambugan in Lanao del Norte, in Davao City and in San Isidro, Davao Oriental.
