Description

Palaui Island is already known as one of the most serene island-paradise famed for its pristine domain, ecological richness and intriguing landscapes found nowhere else.

Volcanic eruptions and lava movements have created the spectacular island of Palaui, as indicated by its undulating terrain. Palauiā€™s allure lies in its agrestic setting, breathtaking sceneries, diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna, and extensive coral reefs which host diverse species of marine life. Taking all these natural wonders into consideration, Palaui managed to maintain an untouched beauty of its entirety in the midst of development happening in the mainland of Sta. Ana, Cagayan.

The protected land and sea area spans about 7,415.48 hectares, which consists of grass meadows, agricultural land, mangrove, tropical and dipterocarp forests. It has 20.6 kilometer shoreline. The local residents and native settlers in the island, the Agtas or Agays, earn their living by farming and fishing. This tranquil island despite being sparsely populated with no electricity, has made its own niche in community-based tourism with the inclusion of Sta. Ana into the 54,000 hectare Cagayan Special Economic Zone and Freeport. A century-old Lighthouse can be sighted in the north of the island, called Faro De Cabo Engano or Cape Engano Lighthouse, which stands 92.75 feet above sea level giving full spectacular breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes and seascapes. Along with other islands in Aparri namely, Fuga, Mabbag and Barit, the area is being developed and managed by the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority.
