The Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science was founded on February 28, 1964. The name Philippine Association of Teachers of Library Science was changed to Philippine Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science, Inc. on July 10, 2003, although retaining the same acronym PATLS.
The PATLS has been in the forefront of library development and library education in the country. It has done its share in improving the services rendered by the different types of libraries not only because its members are all seasoned LIS teachers, but more so because more of the are acknowledged leaders in the field of librarianship in the Philippines. There is no doubt, therefore, that PATLS will remain a wellspring of wisdom and enlightenment in the library profession in our country.
