My great uncle is there . went to visit him . first time a family member had visited in 75 years.was a true humbling experience.also went to Corregidor and a few other locations that he was involved with..I visited on veterans day and they still keep old tradition and they are very thankful still to this day
The American Cemetery is a most do for American visitors to Manila. It is a Washington DC quality memorial to the brave Filipino and American soldiers who fought in WWII. The Philippines campaign is a much overlooked part of WWII history, and this memorial (and a trip to Corregidor if you can manage) will firmly implant a sense of the importance and scale of the war in the Philippines. Don't miss the wall mosaics that display the whole history of the Pacific War with the detail of the old Life magazine maps that I grew up with.
The cemetery is also probably the most pleasant green space in all of Manila. No pets, no picnics, no bikes, no running or exercise due to the solemn nature of the place, but a very pleasant stroll.
Well-maintained. Truly a memoir for our World War II soldiers. There are house rules and dress code to observe when visiting the place. Guards allow visitors starting 9am Manila time. Upon entrance provide an ID to the officer on duty.
This is the symbol of Sacrifice and Peace.
Being the largest No of Graves for American personnel killed in WW2 in the world.
this quiet and peaceful to be inside.
visit and respect them.
maintain silence.
Very serene, and impressive monument. Deserving of the lives it represents.
There are moments in life that remind us how lucky we are just to take our next breath. Moments that cause us to pause and question how we spend our time. I had such a moment here and recommend that anyone that is in Manila with a free afternoon to visit this place and I invite them have such a moment.
Hardly anywhere else are you going to find such a beautiful example of sacrifice and somber tranquility. In a mega city bustling with activity, this place brings you to the inside of yourself and makes you realize just how beautiful the American and Filipino relationship was. The American and Filipino men and women buried here paid the ultimate price for both nations and is one reason I am so proud to be married to a Filipino.
Today In the middle of BGC's skyscrapers . Extremely well manicured like all American Military Cemeteries. A great way to learn about WWII is to view the maps of the Pacific Theater in the Gallery of the Missing anti-rooms.
Beautiful memorial! We needed more time to see it, but we're grateful that they kindly let us stay to hear taps! Hauntingly beautiful as it rang out across the burial sites, but even more memorable as it echoed through the walls of the memorial dedicated to the lost! If you are here, it is a must to visit!
It's a beautifully maintained memorial cemetery, barely any other tourists in a vast area in the middle of Manila. Everything was so big, majestic and grandiose. The quietness that loomed over the place made visitors become solemn and respectful for the soldiers of the past.
A must-go-to place when you are in Manila!
An oasis of calm. Beautiful. Fantastic landscaping.
Very peaceful memorial in the heart of the city. The grounds are well maintained. An incredible place to stop and visit if you have the time.
Amazing place. We had only 2 days in Manila and visited this memorial. We didn't regret it. It is really worth a visit!!!
Quite and tranquil place. Do note that they have a dress code and sleeveless tops are not allowed.
