Attended a friend's wedding, the function area is not that good (the floor is under renovation --- i guess), and the food was just okay BUT the staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Stayed at this place for a night during a 2-day meeting. The place is clean and comfortable and well-maintained despite its age. If you happen to be billeted in the upper rooms, like I did,you would have a view of a part of the city. Though the time I was there,it was mostly rainy, which gave the city skyscrapers and traffic a softer edge.

The rooms are spacious for me as well as the bathrooms. Though,I always lost my way in the maze-like halls connecting the wings.

I don't like the aura of this hotel. It's so creepy and there's little cockroaches in their grand hall.

The buffet at Cafe de Chin is so affordable yet very good. Don't expect much of the ambiance though.

We stayed here for 2 nights and we book for 3 rooms. The bathroom in the other room at 5th floor has a strong smell.. And the linens in the other room at 8th floor has a stinky smell. Wifi connection inside the room in the 5th floor was very poor. I could only get strong connection when i step outside the room. Service was not good, i paid in advance for all 3 rooms during our stay in the first day with a special instruction that i will just leave the other key for my boss will arrived late i give the whole information to the reception area so that when my boss give his name the key will be handed to him right away. But upon ariving of my boss the front desk got him another room and ask him to pay the said room so my boss handed the payment. Out of my knowledge on our 2nd night of stay my boss told me that he was being asked for another pay of his accomodation. So when i raised the complain to the reception they did not give us any refund. They let us pay the room which no one stayed even if it was clearly justified by the key card on their posession the entire time . Worst case they even charged as a late check out for the other room that they erroneously provided to my boss.. What a waste of money.. This is the worst hotel to stay in manila. I will not difinitely recommend this hotel..

We stayed in Great Eastern Hotel two weeks ago .We had horrible experience with different issues in this hotel like: Strong musty smell odor, bed and floor are nasty, bed bugs, cockroaches , ants, shower and drain Not properly works, and flooded floor every we took a shower. The entrance and elevator smell like 100 years old house.Although we paid our four nights in advance, My wife and I just decided to transfer to another hotel in our 3rd night of stay so we can both enjoy our vacation. Before we check out,we tried to refund our 4th night paid room but the management refused to give our money back.I wouldn't recommend Great Eastern Hotel to anyone!! This is the most worst Hotel I ever experience!!!

Staff is super nice... that's the only nice thing I can say about this place.
I got a bad feeling right away as I was escorted to my room. The smell was damp and musty and the open windows transported the smells of raw sewage and old garbage that was collecting along nearby streets, into my nostrils. The rooms were not much better.
1st room had 4 roaches in the 1st 5 minutes of me being there. They moved me to another room where the roaches gave me a false sense of security until the second night. It went downhill from there until I awoke with one dancing on my leg at 3am. The old air conditioning units recycled air through their un-serviced air handlers. There was visible mildew built up in the diverters (the "fins" that direct the air out of the unit) thus the room was damp and musty. The sheets were thin I should say sheet (singular) and worn through in spots. The blanket was a comical sight. It only covered half of the bed once fully spread and the mattress - well it was two thin cushions covered in material and velcro'd together. They move around quite a bit but if you don't mind getting up 2 or 3 times a night to reset them, then you'll be fine. If you were athletic enough to step up and into the tub (elevated about 8 eight inches to allow for porous plumbing I imagine - not easy for a regular athlete let alone a ragged old 46 year-old with a bum knee) a good stream of hot water was delivered as I stood in the marble surround of the tub. My shower would have been pleasant had it not been for the mold and mildew growing in the cracks and grout lines of the marble. The feat of getting up and into the elevated shower/tub was only surpassed by the risky maneuver of stepping down onto a marble floor flooded by a poorly caulked tub or a leak in the plumbing underneath. It was like playing Russian roulette, only with the prospect of breaking my hip instead of driving a bullet through my skull.
Everything everyone else said about the cleanliness and general worn-down appearance in these comments is accurate. Towels are dingy and shampoo bottles are refilled/re-used. Walking bare foot on the floor was a sticky sensation...eww... Wifi is only available in the lobby and in the dining area and is sketchy at best.
The breakfast buffet would have been ok had it not been for the carnival of hungry battle-bots juking and jiving their way through the luke-warm serving trays. I have a strong resolve and am not easily frustrated however, I did give up on my toast after having it fall on the serving table momentarily, then being challenged very swiftly by a lively-whiskered foe.
My coffee was not bad however, I couldn't help but wonder if the very rim I had placed my lips on was at some point visited by the creepy crawlers of the Great Eastern.
    Summation:
If you want a cheap, dingy place to stay and don't mind strange bedfellows or battling for your toast with a seasoned adversary from the cracks and crevices of the Great Eastern, then this is the place for you.
I'm checking out early today and finishing my stay in another hotel. Wish me luck!

Needs renovation. The aircon, facade, facilities such as pool and gym and the dining area. Hot showers are not functional. Linens smell 'unlikely' sometimes.

The hotel might have been great in the 80's, but they've barely kept up with the times.
On the older wing, avoid rooms facing Quezon Avenue. There is no sound proofing and you will hear every vehicle coming through. Some windows couldn't even be shut closed, letting poorly air conditioned air out and traffic noise in.
The newer wing has better rooms though, but just barely.
    They have adequate parking.
