Some of the reasons why people give up on God are becuase of discouragements, disappointments, difficulties, distractions, and sometimes, due to reasons na hindi mo lang talaga maintindihan. And when odds are stacked against you, what will you do? Will you persevere or give up?
Our underdog for last Friday is Jeremiah, also known as the weeping prophet.
Jeremiah was around 17 years old when the Lord called him to be a prophet - and he served God as His prophet for over 40 years. And all throughout those 40 years, Jeremiah went through suffering, persecution, judgment, and hatred by the hands of the very people that should've been the hearers and listeners of the Lord's message. They were God's people but they hated him. But amidst all these challenges, amidst all the sacrifices he had to make, Jeremiah persevered. Even when it felt like obedience only meant suffering, Jeremiah took a step toward the Lord's calling. He chose to obey.
But what kept Jeremiah standing?
He understood that even before he was born, even before he knew of God, God already knew him and had set him apart for His mission and purpose. Jeremiah's God-given purpose was clear to him. He knew which way to go and what to take - and he set his heart to follow it. He had an assurance that Lord would be true to His word and His promise - that He would be with him in all the things that he would do. That assurance gave him strength and courage. And it allowed his mind and heart to be anchored on who God is. The challenges in his life were real - but the reality of who God was even more so.
Here are the highlights from Last Friday's service! Come and join us again this week for the final installment of our The Underdogs series. But more than that, we all welcome you as we celebrate our 9th year anniversary!
