Batad Pension PH

Batad Pension and Restaurant started as the residence for the Blas family in Batad. Mary, the wife was an elementary teacher in the village while the husband, Emiliano was a wood carver. Destiny brought them to Batad bringing their profession which became their triumph.

During the 1990's, Batad village became known to tourists. The accessibility then before was difficult due to limited transportation vehicles, unconstructed roads (trail ways only) and no assistance yet from the tourism office and/or government. Tourist should walk from the junction (intersection going to Mayoyao, Batad, and Banaue town proper now) early inorder to be back in the town before night time.

Furthermore, Emiliano Blas was the first wood carver in Batad, so easily his artworks is known for both tourists and locals. Tourist who walked in to have their customized artwork pieces patiently waited. Regular customers suggested to have meals served while they are waiting. So the the couple started to serve rice meals, sodas and coffees. As time goes by, previous clients send their families and friends to have their pieces also done with Emiliano Blas (as we know postcards and souvenirs are the best before emails). The market of Emiliano Blas Quality Wood Arts has grown. Some clients suggested that there should be an accommodation in the house so they will have a place to stay while waiting for the big and detailed pieces to be done.
It was a very great idea, so the couple build two double rooms in the 2nd level of the house. The family room, kitchen, mini restaurant, souvenir and the wood carvers workplace is in the first level.
