In the early days before the arrival of the Spanish conquistador in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, the Lumad living is now known as Barangay Libertad was living in a clustered community with the center of abode known as SUWI. There were then different Tribal leaders managing their respective affairs residing in different location not far from each other. Barangay Libertad, which denotes freedom, came into being with the Mass Baptism of all Lumad under the guidance of their respective Tribal leaders. Libertad for them means the “Liberation” of belief from paganism to Catholicism.
