Sohar International Airport is an international airport situated in the wilayat of Sohar in Al Batinah Region of Oman. A temporary airport was opened on 18 November 2014 before the completion of the passenger terminal building. Sohar airport was opened by Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi, minister of Transport and Communications, as part of 44th National Day celebrations in November 2014, and Oman Air operated an inaugural flight to mark the official opening. International flights to and from Sohar Airport commenced in July 2017.ConstructionThe airport was built in three packages. Package 1 included site preparation, package 2 included the infrastructure works, and package 3 included construction of airport facilities. The construction of the airport cost 100 million rials to build.Airlines and destinationsOmani airline SalamAir operates to/from between Sohar and Salalah four times a week on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday) Salam Air's first flight to Sohar from Salalah with 72 passengers aboard arrived at the airport on 28 June 2017. The flights are operating on a seasonal basis, taking advantage of increased travel caused by Eid al-Fitr and the khareef.Sohar airport will become the third hub for international airlines in Oman as several carriers plan to start direct services from Sohar, according to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA).Air Arabia, the Middle East and North Africa's first and largest low-cost carrier, launched its inaugural flight to Sohar on 9 July 2017, making it the first international flight to commence operations at the Sohar Airport. The Air Arabia flight are operating three times a week, on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays, departing from Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) at 08:00 hours, and arriving at Sohar International Airport (OHS) at 08:40 local time. The return flight departs from Sohar at 09:20, landing in Sharjah at 10:00 local time.
