For a hostel, I give it 5 stars. Okay, so it's not as flash as the Heritage, but for a hostel, it's pretty good. Clean, tidy, with friendly staff. We had the Double Ensuite. Nice, simple room at a good price.

Absolutely amazing experience, staff very friendly and greeted us upon entry, before showing us our room and the facilities. More like a guest house than a hostel, and despite being a bit older than youth, we felt more than welcome.

Only caveat would be a lack of privacy film on the males shower windows which sit about chest height and overlook the mountains (not applicable to female showers, windows above head height there).

Overall a very pleasant stay, we will stay again.

I highly recommend staying at Kakapo Lodge. They are friendly hosts, with great and clean facilities. The price is very reasonable for what you get. It is located very close to the hot pools, about a 3 minute walk from the entrance, and about 5 minutes into town. The bed was comfortable and the room large.

Great place to stay. Very clean and has everything you would need at a hostel. Wifi was a little spotty but worked fine for the most part.

Super clean, affordable, cozy and cute, a great vibe, the staff are so friendly, and it's right by the pools and other stores etc. I will absolutely be back here and highly recommend it. Also, they have a canary bird, so bonus points for that :)

VERY clean. Tidy, quiet, respectful and under control. Loved my stay. You will not regret booking this place. Only suggestion - try and not get room 2. It is directly under the upstairs bathroom and you can hear EVERYTHING.

It was the nicest backpackers we have seen on our jurney through NZ Southisland on the TA. Staff is very friendly and helpfull and there is everything a hiker needs on his jurney. Don't miss going to the springs to relax (clean undergarment will do as swimming suit:-)

The upstairs lounge with its deck is very comfortable and at night the lounge with the fireplace fills up quickly as the fire creates a warm cozy atmosphere.

Like any other YHA, this one keeps its standard as well. Nice, clean rooms - Friendly staff. Good showers, Kitchen, TV room. And being Hanmer, this place has got the vibe.
