Basic cafe with only a few vegetarian options on the menu. Margherita pizza is supposed to be made with fresh mozzarella cheese, not piles of some grated stuff out of a baggie. The salmon salad was better, although a bit light on the salmon. Banana muffin was stodgy. Limited bottled beer and soda selection.

When we were there it was quite busy, but staff was very friendly and the food amazing. I had the “Salmon Pizza” whitch was mouthwateringly good. Great view as well. No wifi.

We were in mount cook for 5 nights and ate here regularly. What we ordered was on point every time. Great coffee and hot chocolate. Fantastic salmon bagels. And the breakfast we had on our last morning was the best!! Thoroughly recommend.

Ordered The Old Mountaineers' Hamburger with Chips. This burger was by far the worst I have ever tasted. I highly recommend avoiding this burger. My friend ordered the Gormet pie which he said was nice.

The staff is very rude here to the point that they can ruin your day. Not recommended if you want to enjoy your holiday.

$22 or so for a Hamburger and Chips which i was happy to pay. However, the patty was raw inside. Need to improve there quality control/staff training.

We went after lunch for the tomato soup and wedges with sourcream and sweet chilli. The coffee was decent as was the lemonade Given the price and location it is quite good. Good views from the dining room.

We went to the mountaineer hoping to get some charge on our devices while having a meal. Not only are there no outlets around the cafe (you'd think they'd have plenty considering how many backpackers in the area) but we were told after our order that we hadn't ordered enough food to warrant use of their single outlet behind the bar! Found it to be a bit poorly managed which is a shame considering the location. 1 minute up the road you find a better cafe at the hermitage hotel. Friendlier staff and seems a bit more welcoming..

How can one not love a place with delicious food and a fantastic view of the Cook Range to enjoy it with. Recommend the pies and the date, figs and ginger dessert. Friendly service too.
