Small boat but has small group with lunch box! So many people go the southern discovers.

Did the 9.45 encounter nature cruise. Really beautiful place no matter what weather. Professional service. Would recommend the kayak extension as we saw dolphins! Also saw penguins and seals on the cruise.

Worth it! It might seem expensive but you'll be happy that you indulged for this one.
The cruise it great, staff is knowledgable and friendly. They spot wildlife for you and even pull the boat close enough to the waterfalls to fill up glasses of water for everyone to try!
You stop off at a discovery center where they tell you about the wildlife and then you walk downstairs which takes you under the water line to view the sea life and black coral. It's a little long but very cool!
Then we went kayaking which is just about the most peaceful experience. We didn't get wet at all which was good because it was winter.response / report this review -

Absolutely stunning scenery. Our kids were gobsmacked by the views they were seeing on the coach on our way to the cruise. We could not stop taking photos. Highlight was getting wet at the waterfall when the cruise takes you near it. Be prepared!! We thought it would be a mild spray from the waterfall but we were soaked. So much fun. My husband uses a wheelchair for long distances. The driver "OZ" was so accommodating, constantly taking the wheelchair out for us at each stop. The staff on the cruise are wonderful! One of the cruise staff, forgot his name, true New Zealander, walked us back with our wheelchair to the coach. The trip was very comfortable. Plenty of leg room. Highly recommended!!! Only downside is a very long drive to and from which was a bit tiring.

The cruise was great, the staff on board were awesome. The only problem is I paid for discover more but they put me in as 2 people just cruising. So you know what happened next: I couldn't have lunch on the ship and couldn't get to the discovery centre because they didn't have the record onboard. The result is - I got my lunch at the terminal and went to the discovery centre alone on their skipper. I am still not really happy for the extra 2 hours spent on this but I appreciate their effort to solve the problem.

We had terrible weather but that's nobody's fault. The boat trip itself was great. The buffet breakfast was amazing and crew were very friendly!

We bought a Southern Discoveries cruise-meal-observatory combo from the Milford Sound information centre and later got our tickets at the checkin counter at the boarding gate. Once onboard the ship, we were informed that there was some confusion in our case and the crew was not informed of our inclusions. We were also told that they can't do additional meals on cruise and asked to wait while they confirm our details. Finally, after a long wait and everyone served we received our meal bags based on trust that we would have paid for it.
Mix up isn't unusual when you have so many passengers but we were surprised that they were unable to confirm our details from their base office/ checkin counters. We had meal coupons as proof of purchase but somehow meal bags were provided based on 'trust' that we would have paid. Once onboard we also realised there is a meal and there is picnic meal option. We decided to skip observatory later.
The cruise itself is good but overall will rate as an okay experience for us based on how the situation was handled.
I still recommend Milford Sound cruise however make sure you understand the inclusions and pay for what you need. Don't get lured into pay couple of more dollars and get two additional stuff you don't want. Else there are a couple of providers with the same cruise and range of rates. Compare what's on offer, what you want and make a decision.response / report this review -

Went on what I think was the short cruise (?) departing at 9, and it was a stunning trip. Sunshine (the captain apologized for the "un-new zealandish" weather that day ;)), seals, penguins and even dolphins. The fjord were incredible (I'm a Norwegian so I know what I'm talking about!). I wish we could have spent more time here. Hopefully next time.

Had an amazing experience. Provided good Indian food on the cruise. On the way you can witness the real beauty of New Zealand.
