Huge place with lots of awesome nooks and crannies to hang out in - both inside and in their own air courtyard. Always lots of public get together going on. Not exactly fine diving, but a good menu for brunch and dinner. Menu is kids friendly and environment allows for noisy parties that won't interfere with other patrons.

Great beer, great atmosphere, lovely outdoor area. Only downside is that it can get chilly outside, and that it can get busy too. But the service is great!

Huge place. Even when relatively empty for breakfast you struggle to get service from the staff. When you do get it, they are helpful, but the difficulty in doing so can make a quick breakfast into an hour plus affair. I'm not sure they would notice if you walked out. They don't have anything on the menu that is special, mostly classics. But poorly executed and mostly tasteless. Coffee is mediocre, and in most cases is slow, the chefs move faster than the barista in most cases. Some arrive cold, which makes you think the waitstaff can't keep up with the coffee, or they just forgot about you again. If you love food and coffee there are plenty of better places to go.

Love love love this place. There is something here for everyone! 2 for 1 stone grill nights are super awesome and so yum. Kids love them. Would be good if you could pre book these though as if you arrive to late you risk missing out 🙁

Giant Jenga competition is great fun to watch and play. Sausage sizzle for charity night is brilliant thinking! Keep up the great work guys 👍

Great food, great atmosphere, great coffee and fantastic service! I rung at 11am to book for 11.30am on Sunday morning, and although they were super busy, they squeezed our family of four in, face painting out back for the kids while we waited for our food, we were told a 45 minute wait on food but we barely had to wait 20 minutes. Food was delicious and the kids ate everything, which is a miracle in itself! We have never had a bad experience at Southern Cross in the many years we have been there.

Great place to bring the little ones while maintaining a very classy atmosphere in case you don't have little ones. Consistently delicious food and well priced. A great place to visit if you're passing through Wellington, a great place to call your local if you live here!

Good family friendly venue with a lot of bookable spaces for groups of all sizes - including great outdoor areas. Went on Sunday for breakfast and their face painting went down a treat with the kids! Good food and prices.

Amazing place for families in the weekend
Face painting at no charge, toys, colouring books on the morning and live music at 4 most weekends. Check out their website for other great things like massage for parents on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. This is my go to family friendly local and they cater well to a range of dietary needs.

The Southern Cross is a staple in Wellington, a true icon of the city. A very social, trendy and unique place which can cater to all kinds. They have a formal dining area, cafe with cabinet food, bar with indoor and outdoor area with spacious heated cubicles, and a decent space for dancing and live music. Southern Cross has a pool table, regularly hosts salsa nights and projected movies outside providing blankets and hot water bottles. They also host some one off public events which are superb. I really enjoy their mulled wine/cider. They have a fair few vegan options and their food is always a nice change from the norm. Unfortunately the proportions are small and prices aren't the cheapest so after ordering a few things to be satisfied, the bill is quite high. More reasonable proportions or prices would give the Cross 5/5

Brilliant coffee. Kids loved the easter fun and it got them out of the house. Quite crowded but understandable. Will visit again for sure! Hopefully to try their dinner menu

beautiful place for a function and to enjoy lunch out in the sun. only thing is the kids corner has now gone? the tent and chalk etc was good for the kids to keep entertained while the adults enjoyed their meal but i noticed it's not there anymore?

Amazing steak with top notch flavour. was seriously tempted by those desserts. The place was pretty packed and was lucky to get a seat but was worth it.

Food and service was pretty good. Steak needed to be seasoned and they were out of the stone grills. Weighs have been nice to have been told of that when we sat down as that was a big reason why we went there.

Best Garden Bar in Wellington... It seems to be super children friendly, so expect kids to be running around in the day, evenings are great, often some entertainment on, would recommend a booking for a group to secure a nice table, easy to get a table for dinner, can be busy and noisy... If you have kids you'll love it. If you have already eaten the cabinet cake selection is the best I've seen in Wellington, often we would pop in for a night cap or to get some desert. Beers are pricey but it's worth it for a fun Sunday sesh.
