Going clockwise on the Tangariro Northern Circuit, this would be the second stop. It is an essential pit stop for trampers. It provides only bare essentials (water, gas, mattress) and trampers are expected to be self sufficient. See the doc.govt.nz or greatwalks.co.nz for full information on the walks and on booking the huts.
Visit the nearby waterfall (not part of great walk, so you won't go there if you only follow great walk route).
Nice cozy hut with amazing views
Pretty cozy hut due its location and being sounred by old lava flows which is amazing.
Nice and cozy DOC hut. A bit too small, half of the bunks are located in the kitchen/living room. Camp site is right next to the hut on its front.
Water is available but treatment is advised. Free gas cookers but no pots. No showers, just vault toilets.
Reservations are mandatory during Great Walks season.
Very well equipped hut. Reminded me of our beautiful ACC huts in Canada.
Small cosy hut after you crossed Tongario.
Obviously busy and expensive during summer / high season as all the great walks. Try to come in low season and enjoy the peacefulness over here.
Great view towards Mt Doom straight from your bunk bed.
