HISTORY
1988 grand master Gordon A Doversola promoted John W Flavell to Black belt and instructed him to open his own dojo. This brought about Flavell Sensei's founding of the Okinawa-Te Aranui dojo based at the Sydenham Community Centre of which he was the dojo's head instructor. Shortly thereafter the dojo was relocated to the Aranui Community Hall on Breezes Road in Aranui, where it would remain until September 30 1995 when it's name was changed to Okinawa-Te Karate Organization New Zealand Headquarters upon Grand master Gordon A Doversola appointing John W Flavell Sensei as the countries head instructor of the Okinawa-Te Karate organization in New Zealand. At which time Flavell Sensei was already an advanced Sandan and the highest ranked (Active) instructor. His official title of New Zealand Chief Instructor was announced via media to the entire organization with the full support of Grand master Gordon A Doversola. The New Zealand Headquarters as it became known as remained at the Aranui Community hall until 1997 when it relocated to 233 breezes Road, where the Chief instructors family had built a games room on the rear section of the property which then became the new location of the New Zealand Chief Instructor, Sensei Flavell's dojo. This is where it would spend the next eighteen years under Sensei Flavell's leadership teaching hundreds upon hundreds of students.
