Despite a general belief that the airfield is closed, it is actually quite active with several organisations flying there.
North Otago Aero Club has operated there since 1956 and trains pilots as well as providing air transport to other airports such as Christchurch International, Queenstown and Dunedin.
Aerial Sowing also flies from Oamaru with a Cresco 750.
North Otago Heritage Aviation also has a hangar where interested people can help build replica aircraft from scratch.
