The drive up the valley is amazing. So many waterfalls. So many amazing mountains. The road is ok. The creek fording may freaks out some people but if taken slowly are ok. The do have a solid base.

One of my favourite places near Wanaka -

Mount Aspiring National Park is a hikers paradise, offering a variety of shorter walks that are great for a day trip out enjoying the park’s natural beauty. These shorter walks include the Routeburn Nature Walk, Haast Pass Summit, Lake Sylvan, and the Blue Pools Walk. The Blue Pools Walk is one of the most popular short walks on the South Island.

Well I left very early in the morning to do the walk to the viewpoint. The road there is unsealed and pretty bumpy. We were stopped right at the start by a massive cow crossing the river which was kind of cool. The walk up to Rob Roy glacier viewpoint isn't too bad but it's a slight challenge.
I'm sure the views are great and it wasn't horrible but still the cloud covered a lot. I still got some nice views on way up and down so would say it's worth doing.
