This place is worth the pit stop. The beer was good as well as the cider and you can't beat the food. We were able to try the pizza and lamb burger as well as the fries. Both items were fresh and well made. The space has the modern brewery atmosphere but is still inviting. It is an easy place to spend a few hours of downtime.

MONTEITH'S BREWERY LEAVES BITTER TASTE
Partner and I stopped in on our travels around New Zealand. Had loved Monteith's beers until we stopped in a couple months back. Ordered from the bald bloke behind the bar, he asked if I had tried the beer. I said I hadn't but that I had been really enjoying it and was looking forward to getting it back home too. For some reason he took offence to this, got very weird standoffish and threw a few awkward insults our way. Just trying to pay a man a compliment on his beer! Dude needs to chill out. Safe to say I haven't had a sip of Monteith's since.response / report this review -

Awesome beer, out of this world pizza. There was a mixture in personalities of staff, however. One team member seemed to be enthusiastic and helpful, while another seemed to be sour and tired of the job (and possibly of tourists.) Both women, maybe she was having a bad day, but it felt like an episode of good cop, bad cop. If was a good atmosphere though, and a beautiful brewery.

We enjoyrd dinner and drinks during our short stay in Greymouth. The drinks and food were delicious, the staff was accommodating, friendly, and they gave us some must see detours to add to our itinerary (Punakaiki pancake rocks and blowholes, and Hokitika Gorge). The interior is large and well decorated, too!

Ok people, cold rainy afternoon in Greymouth, what do you do? Go to Monteith's Brewing Co.
We did the tour of the Brewery, Tarn was our tour guide. We learnt about basic beer ingredients, and had a look around the production floor, all very informative. Also made better with Tarns natural charisma. The tours cost around $25, and that includes many free beers. You will drink the tour fee back.
We also visited the restaurant later that night to partake in a chicken & cranberry pizza and even more drinking.
Overall fun way to spend an afternoon and night. 5 stars, well done Tarn.

Small but perfectly formed brewery - we visited at the end of Autumn / beginning of winter so the place was fairly quiet. We did the paid tour and tasting which was interesting and because we were the only people on the tour ended up being allowed to help the Master Brewer add the hops to his latest batch he was making that evening. The tasting selection is good - you get 5 small glasses and can choose from the range of beers on tap, we also ordered some food to go with this which was tasty. You also get to pull a pint or two as part of the tour (and drink it).
There's a great fireplace with sofas in the front lobby / bar area so we stayed on for a couple more drinks before wandering back to the hotel. Staff were all very friendly as to be expected in NZ! Definitely recommend stopping by this place.response / report this review -

We arrived at 6:30pm and the place was busy. We found a seat and ordered home made chips, pull apart loaf and steak. The food arrived quickly, was very tasty and well presented but quite pricey for pub food. The beers were great (as expected) with a good selection of wine also. The staff were friendly and efficient. The only thing we disliked was that the place closed at 8pm - on a Saturday night. This is a bit disappointing for out-of-towners.

Best brewery I've been to in Australia or New Zealand. A must visit if you like beer and you're travelling down the west coast.

Awesome place to chill for a bit on a Sunday arvo and watch the wild weather outside through the huge glass wall. Beer is cold and most definitely the freshest Monteiths I have ever had. Go figure. The Hapuku sliders and beef cheek croquettes were delicious but on the small side for the price.

Absolutely lovely place to spend some hours. Cool staff, nice food and the best beer I've ever had in New Zealand. The tour with Brad was absolutly cool. He showed us how Monteith keeps the traditions. A Must-Do in Greymouth

Good collection of Beer to taste from. Must advise to pickup their tasting trays which cater for 3/6 glasses depending on taste. Accompanied food was great, though we had a mixup and our food was delivered to next table, the staff sorted it quickly and got our order prioritized.

Awesome selection of beers and food was outstanding. Would recommend the Radler to drink and Ribs or Venison Sliders to eat. Tour was probably the best i have been on. Unrestricted access to all areas of the brewery. Production had finished for the day so I think we were able to go into more areas. A definite must if in the area.

Nice place to just have a beer and a bite to eat, or even a full dining experience. Highly recommend getting the tasting palette, have a try of what Monteith has to offer, from the source.
