Great place for a weekend trek. Follow the trail carefully though - my friend and I strayed ever so slightly and went about a mile off track. Had to follow the pink ribbons back to the correct trail.

Good network of Walking tracks. While not as extensive as the Waitakare ranges. The Hunua has it's own unique, more rugged character. Generally less crowded with plenty of bird song. Hasn't been too clear recently whether certain tracks are open or not, but only finding out after walking the actual supposedly closed track and coming to a rope and a sign facing the other way E.g Earnies track (clockwise from Upper Mangatawhiri Dam) Not sure what "Low resolution proof" that's printed diagonally across these laminated signs mean(?)

Really nice for a family outing - very easy going trials around the Falls. The Falls themselves are only a few meters from the parking lot. Restrooms are available too

Beautiful spot for walking, photos or a pick nick. Just don't go swimming in the waterfall, it's REALLY dangerous.

I've been visiting the falls and the trails through the ranges nearby for going on 30 years and now I'm taking my young son and it's still good every time.

One can get pretty close up to these falls. Great facilities for sleep overs. We loved the walk through the forest. There has been a bit of flooding, so best to wear good walking boots. A Must See for anyone visiting the outskirts of Auckland.
