The old Wharf still has what was officially New Zealand's shortest stretch of railway, now preserved. The then New Zealand Railways owned TSS Earnslaw serviced the isolated communities along the lake shore from the rail head at Kingston. Cargo was directly loaded to and from a solitary flat top wagon that was pushed back to the NZR built goods shed on the shoreline. Heavier loads sometimes required a horse. The wagons were swapped out every few years. Two wagons now are located there and can still be used.

A nice place for new visitors to New Zealand. This place is a bit cold, and has public toilets. I would recommend if you're visiting New Zealand especially photographers.

The shore near the wharf has some rocks in pretty interesting colors -- they'd make for a nice photo. You also get great views of Lake Wakatipu, and if you fancy, you could hop in for a swim -- I've seen some people doing that.

1hour drive from queenstown. Beautiful and peaceful small city. This place was featured in lord of the rings movie. Fans of lord of the rings, you might want to visit this place.

This is a must visit if you are in Queenstown, it is just about an hour of scenic drive from Queenstown. The Glenorchy Wharf and the red shed is the signature landmark here, extremely photogenic scenery. This was one of the filming spots for the legendary movie The Lord of the Rings, the photos doesn't even do the justice to the beautiful nature. Behind the red shed, you will also find the famous willow trees. There's toilet facility nearby.

It's a very scenic drive from Queenstown. There are also some beautiful places to see that were in the movies of the Lord of Ring. A good option for a taking it easy day.

It's a cute spot for photos at which Lake Wakatipu becomes the Dart River. There's a few cafes nearby but not much else around.

Jutting out into the last gasp of Lake Wakatipu in Glenorchy the wharf is a stunning photo op. It allows the photographer to juxtapose the natural with the man made. Really beautiful.

Awesome place to chill. Depending when you go it could be busy with tourists (mid day) or absolutely still and peaceful. Beats the hustle of queenstown for sure

The drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy is a wonderful experience with some awesome sights. Do stop and take in the natural beauty along the way.

Glenorchy waterfront reserve is a must visit with beautiful lakefront and some awesome sights. The water is crystal clear and a walk by the lake is sheer pleasure.

Walk around to the eateries close by, have a warm cup of coffee and some savories.

If you are adventurous, then pre-book for skydiving. Else take a chopper ride up to the glacier.

Beautiful spot. Came here early in the morning at winter and the fog was stunning, also very quiet and peaceful (almost kind of eery) definately one of my favourite spots in NZ

Beautifully maintained and peaceful place. There are a lot of place for everyone to picnic, play etc. A stone throw away from the shops.
