I was surprised by my visit to flames. It far exceeded my expectations. The prices were lower than expected for the quality. It's a pretty good night when a table of four all love their entrees mains and desserts. Pretty cool to see such a wide variety of gourmet ice creams that can be added to your dessert for just 2.00

Hadn't been to this hotel for years and was pleasantly surprised to find they had new management, a new chef trained in Melbourne with food to die for... the rooms were clean and light and airy... a very enjoyable stay. I even checked out the conference facilities there for future events I have in the pipeline and was even more surprised to see the big professional set up they have there including stage and dance floor! Very versatile for all types of events and happy to accommodate my catering and set up wishes. TOP MARKS FLAMES HOTEL! Very impressed and I will be staying again.

This hotel might well be a cut above others in Whangarei but whatever you do, don't have the toast. On the weekend that I stayed the kitchen was closed and so I had to resort to having the continental breakfast. Various hotels have various prices but most often Continental Breakfast (toast and cereal) is included in the price of a room unless otherwise stated. Flames International hotel has no signage stating prices at the reception and does not indicate in the guide book in each room that continental breakfast is extra. Upon checking out I was charged no less than $34 for my toast! For that price I could have purchased a very nice cooked breakfast. A seasoned traveller might be aware that hotels will seek to rip you off but as a casual weekend explorer I was very shocked and felt deceived. After all, I had even taken out my own dishes.... I wish I could give this establishment a good rating but hidden costs are what turn a good holiday bad.
