Brilliant hike to the Rocky Mountain summit. Not a popular hike so you can get the place to yourself. Stunning views of Wanaka and the mountains. Steep climb but mostly switchbacks and steps, not too difficult. A good alternative to Roys Peak.

Astonishing view from the top, nice walk to be done! Pretty quiet. It can be muddy and icy in the winter

Free camp site and close to wanaka as well as Treble Cone ski field. Is what it saus on the tin. Just a car park with some nice walks near by.

Plenty of space, off the road so nice and quiet, stunning views of the surrounding mountains. No light pollution so excellent for star-gazing. Long-drop toilet was fine(bring own paper), no potable water. Really great set of walks for most abilities, we did them all and were impressed.

It's an easy walk to the lake and there are some beautiful viewpoints. But the highlight is really the trek up to the top of Rocky Mountain. The track goes in a circle so you can go either way - however, I think going counter-clockwise is a bit easier because you go downhill for the steepest bits. Amazing 360 degree views from the top!!
