The staff here are among the worst I have ever come across in the hospitality industry. My friends and I were in total shock at how bad it was. Food was good though, shame the lady at the counter ruined the experience.
The food was not bad. There are always many things to choose from. Though the Fairlie baker house (salmon pie) is a strong competition.
What really bothers me was their services. Our family would always stop by the bakery on our way to Tekapo. It used to be one of the highlights of the entire trip. However for some reason, in recent years the staffs have really been showing animosity towards non pakeha. At first we thought it was just general rudeness due to a busy day at the cafe, only to realized later that the actions were in fact targeted. After three final consecutive attempts, we finally gave up our family ritual and decided as a family to never go back again.
A good choice if you are white. Otherwise, you might want to drive the extra miles to Fairlie to avoid paying to be humiliated and insulted. Experiences like this just give you such a bitter after taste.
awful service.
Great place for a coffee and a meat pie.
Good selection of pies and slices, reasonable priced. Great for kids. Standard NZ cafe/tearoom.
