Had a great experience hiring equipment through Bay Beach Hire. Nick and Dan were so helpful in everything, from getting us set up, explaining the weather, and even checking in on us while we were out kayaking for 3 days, 2 nights. The kayak was of very high quality and they were able to help out with some camping equipment as well. Would highly recommend, get out on the water to see the beautiful Bay of Islands. Paihia is just a gateway to everything that is out there, so jump in a kayak, paddle out there and see it!

There are a couple of kayak hire places in Paihia and I can’t compare the two, but I was very happy with this one conveniently sited at the south-eastern end of the beach (with on-street parking adjacent and public toilets nearby). The equipment was sound; the rates very fair (eg two hours for $25); and the staff keen to ensure that you are safe and enjoy your session. I went out for a paddle on three consecutive mornings and was particularly impressed by the general manner and enthusiasm of the manager, Dan, who was even kind enough to offer me a bottle of water when he thought I was setting off without one.
As well as kayaks you can hire a paddle board or, for experienced sailors, a catamaran, and in addition to these water-based activities the business also specialises in mountain bikes, which appeared to be well maintained.

Dan told me about the kayak section of Te Araroa and invited me to join even tho I wasn't doing the trail. He was very helpful and looked after all of us really well before and after our kayak trip. Dan's a very easy guy to get along with and I would happily go to Bay Beach Hut again for some more adventures if I'm back in the area :)

Been there a few times either to hire a kayak or paddle board or to get one of their bikes. It can get very busy especially in summer but the more than friendly staff members always make sure to find the most suitable and best solution for you - no matter if you're coming as a family with kids, as a big group or as an individual person (could tell this while I was around at busy periods). They will give you the best advice on what to do (according to your time frame) and where to go depending on the weather, the tide and the winds. If you don't have any experience on the water - don't worry, they're happy to teach you the basics you'll need to know to have a relaxed and safe experience! They are maintaining their gear (from mountain bikes over kayaks to paddle boards) very well and update the fleet regularly. My happy place in town to spend some time out at this beautiful spot!

Dan and Nick were so incredibly helpful . We had catastrophic breakdown on a cycle trip and they pulled out all the stops to get us back on the road. Dan is a very experienced (creative) cycle repair mechanic! It's a beautiful spot on the beach and they have an excellent range of boats, boards and bikes for hire. Couldn't recommend enough!

Amazing value/ No fuss / Great Staff / Central location
The most nice and helpful guy working here when I visited. He had a large group to sort out just in front of us and still couldn't have been more efficient. Not to mention the kayak trip itself was gorgeous!

We rented a double kayak for the day. It was such a great experience. Dan gave us great advice on which route to take and we actually stumbled upon a pod of about 8 dolphins and had such a great time with them being curious of the kayak. A super cheap alternative to paying for a boat tour with a much more personal experience with the coastline and nature in the bay.

Just rented a kayak from here this morning and it was great! Super quick and friendly service, I was in a kayak within three minutes of walking in! Also they gave me a dry sack for my belongings and held onto a bag of stuff I didn't want to bring. Beautiful islands nearby to kayak around or to stop and have a picnic/swim on! And it was only $15 for one hour. 5/5!!

Awesome experiences to be had here!!! Went kayaking for 3 hours yesterday and had a ball. The guys there are great and really easy going!! Nothings a problem and they get you sorted for whatever activity you choose! Can't recommend them enough! AAA+ is what I'd rate them. Go check them out. Really good rates too!
