I am setting up an inexpensive, simple trip with friends!
Mt. Kailash – the most sacred mountain in the Tibetan Buddhist world is considered to be the centre of the universe. Uncannily symmetrical, this remote and remarkable peak is located in the far west of Tibet. For many it is a primordial image of a stupa/choerten, crowned with a glacier and a perfect cone of pure snow. It is the sacred mountain of four different religions for more than one billion people.
The cosmologies and origin myths of Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism refer to Kailash as the mythical Mt. Meru, the Axis Mundi, the centre and birthplace of the entire universe. For Hindus, Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva.
The mountain was already legendary before the great Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata were written. Mt. Kailash is so deeply embedded in the myths of ancient Asia that for many it is the location of the strongest cosmic power.
We are looking for travel partners. Only every 12 Years can one fully connect with the Mandala of Mt. Kailash! We will do both the mountain and lake Mansasarovar kora. Take the advantage of this great opportunity!
Guide: Thomas Toth, born 1969 in Hungary. I have been living for the past 8 years in Nepal, India & Ladakh, where I studied and practised Buddhism under the guidance of several great Tibetan masters. My first visit to Mt. Kailash was in 2002.
Mandala Journey: Consciously we choose a simple trip (budget level) without support team, like sherpa cooks etc. We plan to do the kora the same way Tibetan pilgrims do, being flexible and light, sleeping in monastery guesthouses and pilgrim shelters and eating local food. On the top of having a true pilgrimage experience, it will also cost a lot less than a tour with full board. However, Thomas and a Tibetan guide will always be with you to provide support in various ways.
