Hyolmo Social Service center is a non-governmental, non-profit earning, social organization dedicated in serving the Hyolmo indigenous community and all other Buddhist communities in terms of social, cultural and religious aspects. The organization was established in the year 2050 BS (1993 AD) and the organization is now an Umbrella for more than six hundred and fifty members. As the primary aim of the organization, a community monastery has been built and has been providing a venue to organize various social and cultural events for its members and non members. Moreover, organization is also committed in providing support for the preservation and development of Buddhism and traditional practices of Himalayan Buddhism.
With the substantial migration of Hyolmo families from the Hyolmo region to Kathmandu (A capital city) in the last thirty years, Hyolmo people have felt a need for an institution in Kathmandu itself that would enable them to keep the community organized both culturally and socially, and so help them to preserve traditional Hyolmo culture and values.
