Basantapur durbar square situated in the heart of Kathmandu is enlisted in world heritage site. It is famous for religious and architecture beauty. But during 2015 devastating earthquake most of the temple and building was destroyed.

One of the ancient heritage in Kathmandu valley where the culture and tradition of the ranas and shah dynasty is Basantapur Durbar Square also known by Kathmandu durbar sqaure. It was the palace of the shah dynasty before they moved to Narayanhiti palace. One and only living goddess kumari house is within the premises of the durbar sqaure.
Kumari house, 55 windows palace, Gaddi baithak, Kastamandap, and many iconic temples are the attraction of the place.
One can have the good time to learn the history and culture of Nepal and some good clicks too. A fruitful day to spend at durbar sqaure.
After the devastating earthquake some monuments are under construction but have a good time.response / report this review -

Very beautiful place to go for outing with some religious and historic. We can find many handicraft items, it gives some tipical nepali feelings within the durbar squar arra.

Basantapur Durbar Square is also known as Kathmandu Durbar Square is UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the main acttractions in Kathmandu Valley for international as well as domestic tourists.

Durbar Square in the heart of old Kathmandu city in Basantapur never fails to impress first time visitors with its intricate wood carvings and rich history. Surrounded by concrete buildings, the complex is an oasis in a fast developing, chaotic modern city. Once the residence of Nepal's Royal family, all coronation ceremonies were held here. The palace is an amalgamation of eastern and western architecture with additions by Rana and Shah rulers over the centuries. An unbelievable 50 temples lie within the vicinity including the temple of the titular deity, Taleju Bhawani. The Durbar is divided into two courtyards, the outer Kasthamandap, Kumari Ghar, and Shiva-Parvati Temple, and the inner section consisting of Hanuman Dhoka and the main palace. Some floors have been converted to museums dedicated to three generations of Shah kings. Most parts of the palace premises are open to tourists throughout the week.

It is one of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley. It is surround with spectacular architecture from artists and craftsmen over several centuries. Great place for Tourists and also the local people to hangout. College students come here to hangout after college. There's also a museum and the home of Kumari (a girl choosen as human incarnation of Goddess Durga)
