The historic train that passes up through the mountains is without a doubt the best thing to do in town. The train is wonderfully restored and feels just like it must have when it was the only way to get into town. From town, it passes up through the mountains, along rivers and even through a tunnel through the mountain, finally arriving at the top. It even stops at the waterfall for pictures along the way. Make sure to get a window seat for the best views, though you’ll only get good pictures through the open windows in the reserved seats. The journey up and back takes about an hour each way and you can even stay on. Don’t miss it in Flam. Book ahead to make sure you can get on.

If I could give Zero stars, I would. This was an overpriced tourist attraction; a train ride at least 60% of which is through tunnels totally obstructing views of anything. The train never stops for any photography until you reach the end of the line at the top (Myrdal Station) at which time you have approximately 10 minutes before the train leaves on its return to Flåm. Perhaps the best photo opportunity is some pictures of the outskirts of Flåm as the train nears the end of the return trip. This is basically a working train, dropping people off along the trip up the mountain, that someone decided would be a money-making tourist attraction Save your money and perhaps take a cruise through some of the Fjords or use the money to stay an extra day or night in your favorite city!

Good fun. Really enjoyed the trip up and down (especially if you like your trains and photography). However, it gets VERY busy with tourists as the day goes or or when there's a cruise ship in.I'd advise going early or late accordingly if you can. Also make sure you get there with plenty of time to sparewe booked tickets and nearly missed our train owing to a road tunnel being closed!

I rode the train with my wife and son while on a cruise through Norway. We booked directly with the railroad saving considerable money. The line is used by commuters from the coast to transfer to the Bergen rail line. It's about 30 minutes each way. A video with audio plays to point out highlights. As many groups book rides the audio is in multiple languages based on nationality of groups onboard.

There are multiple waterfalls with a stop at an observation platform adjacent to the largest. It is very impressive.

You are encouraged to visit the museum. It is free (don't even have to ride the train). Don't skip it. It's small but well done. It is also the gift shop at which we bought some gifts as it had a good selection and prices.

Definitely worth it if you have Children. A nice scenic ride with great views. If you want to get any good photos at the stops, hustle off. There is nothing else to see or buy and the stops are very quick.

One thing I believe you can do is train up and then bike back down I'd recommend looking into this on a nice day!

Old classic rail road. Several waterfalls along the route. Highly recommended!
(Make sure you are early if there is a new cruise ship on the quay in Flåm)

Pretty awesome that this train was pretty old and still in service. Really loud outside the train when in motion. Be sure to close the windows when going through a tunnel since it gets loud and bats can fly in. Otherwise it's a gorgeous view of Norway and some of its waterfalls. If going uphill be sure to sit on the right side. Most of the gorgeous views are on this side.

Beautiful train ride between Flåm and Myrdal. The day we were there it was rainy so the viability wasn't amazing but the train slows at some of the main vista points and stopped at one of the waterfalls. I definitely recommend the Norway in a Nutshell route, especially on the new boat.
