Like the lady VB said below, if you are staying at the hostel Flam, and you are cooking something, this is the only supermarket close by where you can buy anything fresh to cook for yourself that is. Otherwise your only choice is barbecue near the entrance to this hostel, or hit the restaurants. They have all the other things you might want to bring or buy as 'emergencies' on the cruise ships or wherever you are headed for on the fiords. Did you forget the chocolate, the sweets, the warm hat, scarf, sunglasses etc..This place is very scenic, you just have to come back here in Google Maps to enjoy the contributions from other holiday makers, to refresh your memory. You have the fiords, the mountain side, the waterfalls, the perfectly unspoiled green surroundings, the extra clean unpoluted air which I can never get over. Oh of course this place is definitely touristy, must have come across several hundred new faces every day I was there, catching the next train or boat whenever I`m wondering near the pier. And of course prices must be more expensive than the equivalent in Bergen or even Oslo. It makes logical sense, no? A perfect mountain cruise rest stop!
I used the post office service here. Extremely helpful employees.
Busy with tourists from the cruise. Better drive into the city to the spar
Best place to shop in Flam! Eating outside was pretty expensive. So if you are staying at a hostel, it is best to buy your food here and prepare it at the shared kitchen. Being a vegetarian it was hard to find a cheap place that served food. So i bought a few stuff at this place to make my own food!
It's probably one of the most expensive shops I've ever visited.
The choices where too low as well.
I wish the prices were economical.
Unfortunately, that's the only grocery shop available in that village.
Basic but all you need for a short trip.
Small Coop. Can get busy when a train or cruise arrives, but one of the few places to buy groceries near the train station and docks in Flåm.
Much better to buy food from here and cook at your accommodation than to buy the crappy and expensive food from the "restaurants" around here.
Small and crowded if you arrive with a cruise, it stills great to be able to buy some local chocolates bar and drinks.
One way to be a bit more thrifty during your trip is to eat a meal or two bought from here. Not that it's inexpensive, is still Norway. When we were there (2013), the selection was decent and beat eating out every time.
