The Mare-Marieke, hails from Harlingen in The Netherlands, she is one of the fastest charter boats in the Dutch fleet.

The Mare-Marieke (built in 1880) is a classic flat-bottomed Dutch sailing barge. One of only three of it's kind left in the world. She was originally used to transport goods along the Dutch coast over a hundred years ago. She underwent an extensive refit in 1996 and is now classified as a four star class charter sailing ship.
The skipper, Axe Zaal, is qualified and experienced sailor from Hoorn in the North of Holland. He has been afloat for many years, learning his trade on the tall ship "TE VEGA", he has sailed many yachts and even a tanker.
His family background is all sailing. His father, Dick Zaal, is a well known yacht designer, and his mother is running a chandlery in Hoorn and has also a lot of sailing experience
