Description
Leiden University is the oldest university in the Netherlands. It was founded in February 1575, as a gift from William of Orange to the citizens of Leiden after they had withstood a long siege by the Spanish.
Leiden University was the first university in the Netherlands to practise freedom of belief and religion, as reflected in the university's motto, Praesidium Libertatis, Bastion of Liberty.
Leiden is a typical university city. University premises are scattered throughout the city, and the students who live and study in Leiden give the city its relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere.

2018 is het Europees Jaar van het Cultureel Erfgoed.😀 De Hortus Botanicus Leiden is een van de culturele hoogtepunten in Leiden.🐛🌷🌿 De Hortus Botanicus Leiden is de oudste botanische tuin van Nederland!Aangelegd in 1590 en uitgebreid in de eeuwen daarna is de Hortus hét groene hart van Leiden.🦋 Als je studeert aan Universiteit Leiden en een LU-Card hebt, kan je de Hortus elke dag gratis bezoeken van 10:00-16:00!👍

How are you enjoying the sunny autumn weather?🐿☀🍁 This cafe has a sunny terrace from midday till the sun goes down. Not bad at all we think! Order some bitterballen or cheese croquettes and relax! 😎

Shandong University (SDU) in Jinan is one of the strategic partners of Leiden University in China 🇨🇳️ There is an intensive exchange of students and researchers. Chinese Studies (MA) students will spend two semesters in Jinan to strenghten their language skills. 😁
At the Cultural Center of SDU, international students learn about the traditions in China. Here we see a group of Leiden University students that learn about tea and the ceremonies that belong to it. 😎
