If you love Indonesian cuisine than this is your place, the staff is attentive and good in their knowledge about the dishes they serve. My suggestion; definitely go for the rice table. The spices are just right and me as a meat and fish easter was not missing out on it when I went for the vegetarian option.
Ok, so the food is good. However, despite the fact that we had made reservations and ordered very quickly, we were waiting over an hour for our food (just two of us). Our waitress also forgot our drink orders twice. The second time she said the beer was 'on her.' Ok, so we finally get our food and are happy enough, but we are sitting next to the kitchen window and someone in the kitchen breaks a wine glass, the bowl of which hits me in the head and then there is broken glass in our foodThe staff was immediately attentive and apologetic. They move our table and get us new dishes within a few moments (which sort of brings up the question as to why we waited over an hour in the first placewhile people who had arrived after us were being served). Anyway, they say we don't have to pay for dinner, which is very nice and everything, but then we are charged not only for water (ok, fine, this is Europe, free water isn't a thing), but also for the beer that the waitress had said was 'on her' and my beverage which I didn't get to finish because glass had broken over it and I didn't want to risk drinking it--it was never replaced. We spoke with another family as they were leaving (parents and two kids who had been there when we arrived) and they said they waited over 2 hours for food (they also had reservations). So, food is good, but service isoverall not great. Would rather have had a meal in a timely fashion without having our drinks forgotten and have paid for the meal than to have had this mess of a situation for 'free.'
We checked into our Airbnb today and had the most amazing variety of the tasting menu. One was meat-centric for me and the other, vegetarian for my wife. They fit us in downstairs at high top tables without a reservation which we thought was very kind and amazing. It was well worth the wait for all of the dishes. We Highly recommend this place if you want tasty and great variety. Thank you to our Airbnb host that recommended this place to us. 🙏
One of the best places to wat in Amsterdam. The meat rice table is amazing and the also the starters are great! Might be busy so make sure you reserve on time
Its a tourists rip off you well spend minimum 30+ euros you well not even get full with a very small portion its a joke really. never felt that i wasted so much money in my life as in Blauw
A fine-dining experience with very friendly staff, amazing wine selection and good food.
Don't expect to pay any less than 30-40 euros minimum per person, but I would say it is well worth the price.
Don't hesitate to dress up! (A lot of snobby diners there).
There were only two vegetarian options both based on tofu, however, even though I am not a huge tofu enthusiast, I loved the meal I got, (can't remember the name exactly, picture included)- just as tasty and spicy as it should be. My friends got the goat meat and they loved it as well (perhaps the quantity vs pricing was a bit off in their case, but still worth it).
Husband and I had brisket and beef BBQ ribs. Both were very tasty, though portions were a little small for the price. Coleslaw, corn bread and fries were also good. Service was prompt and friendly. Would eat there again.
Booked a table, when we arrived the personal couldn't find our booking. Wee showed them our call on our telephone but no response. So we had to find an other restaurant. 😫😫😫
Had never tried authentic Indonesian cuisine before. Was fantastic. Staff couldn't of been any more friendly and we're helpful on recommending good local bars
Amazing resturant specialized in Indonesian cousine. Must try the Rijsttafel, a tapas-like option where your table gets covered in little tasting plates of the most popular items on the menu. Service is not the greatest and that is the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars.
Disclaimer: I'm an Indonesian
Blauw doesn't disappoint. Although the interior, decor and the staff are all Dutch / Europeans, their food is still authentic Indonesian, that's what's most important here.
I got recommended this restaurant by an Indonesian friend who's lived in the Netherlands for quite some time, so Blauw is the "fancier" version of Indonesian dining in Amsterdam.
We ordered rijstaffel, all three of us, although my boyfriend and I decided to share by paying a little bit extra, but since we were quite full from the beer we had before, it was just perfect size. The food was overflowing the table, almost, but they were all delicious. I personally like their vegetarian dishes because the meat is sort of "same-same" in pidgin' English.
So if you're around in Amsterdam and want to dine Indonesian, with a little bit of fancy touch, go to Blauw, and order the vegetarian one, since it's more tasty. Do remember to book a table because it's a popular place!
Great Indonesian food and a popular restaurant on a Saturday evening. We were lucky to walk in and find a table. Prices are ok, but not cheap.
