Beautiful museum, a very interesting Asian collection. We visited whilst there was a Japanese exhibition, which was really nice to see. There was music which was really too noisy. Furthermore, lovely play area and cafe, (glutenfree food) and large shop where you can buy interesting books and nice (useful) gifts. I can recommend a visit.

I find it very funny what some people label as ethnic, what is so normal for some people and so odd to others. But that's the beauty of this museum. Good cafe, also!

A lovely museum, with very rare artefacts.
If You are in Netherlands for a year I would recommend getting a museum kaart (60€ adult, 33€ student), which enables You to visit a wide spectrum of museums all across Netherlands.
I have been here on the COOL JAPAN exposition, and it was very interesting, and unexpected. The curator combined ancient and contemporary art in a well put together way. Looking forward for a new exposition.

We came to see the Cool Japan exhibit. It was worth the visit. The exhibit itself was nice and quite large. Spread across the exhibit are 10 terminals with questions which can be accessed with your entry ticket. Upon finding all 10 terminal and answering the questions correctly you get a small reward at the info desk.

Across the permanent exhibits they have challenges for kids. They have to find answers to some questions and upon giving the correct answers they get a stamp. Four stamps unlock a custom temporary tattoo based on the collected stamps (there are more than 4 stamps so you can decide which one you like).

The permanent exhibits are definitely also worth the trip. They're nicely presented and plenty of info is available in Dutch and English. We planned on spending about 2 hours but wound up staying for about 4 hours.

Was here for the Cool Japan exhibit, which was really very cool.

Permanent exhibitions are also great - the collections are fabulous and there is much to see. The museum shop and café are both really good, and there is a lovely garden.

Close to the central train station in Leiden, Netherlands, this beautiful museum is housed in a historic building with canals on two sides. The museum features exhibits from 8 different cultural regions and has permanent as well as regularly changing objects of interest. There is an area within the museum that is especially designed for children with interactive exhibits.

Loved the Cool Japan exhibition. The permanent collection of Indonesia was very impressive, I had no idea. Chill cafe area.

Has interesting but slightly traditional exhibition of artefacts by country housed in a Victorian building. Temporary exhibitions with a country as theme can be very impressive. Currently a second show about Japan combining the old and the new.

Very interesting museum. I really liked the sections od different regions. Especially the Oceainia part. The texts are at the right place and very interesting. The temporary exhibition, Cool Japan gave an interesting point of view of the japan adorement.
