I had a mission trip to Nicaragua with my students. I visited The Monkey's and had the greatest time at this beautiful restaurant. What I love about this place is the ambiance. There was live music, and the food was excellent. I do not speak Spanish, and so I had a difficult time with the menu, but this wonderful stranger helped me and my student with our order.
I accidentally ordered something that had an ingredient that I am allergic to, and the workers were so pleasant to remake my order. I really appreciate kind people, great food, awesome music, but most of all peace. Monkey's Restaurant definitely embodies these attributes.response / report this review -

Live music (traditional Nicaraguense), good nachos, cold beer, open air ambiance, rich wood decor, overlooking Parque Morazán.
Música en vivo (Nicaraguense tradicional), buenos nachos, cerveza frÃa, el ambiente al aire libre, rica decoración en madera, con vistas del Parque Morazán.
Has become my "goto" hangout during my two week stay in Matagalpa. Not only for evening beer and live music, but also for morning coffee. Their French press coffee is the best I've had here. Also enjoy cold the hibiscus tea ("Jamaica"). Wait staff is friendly and attentive. Only niggle is the loud music, but that is part for the course here in Nicaragua and easily circumvented with a set of foam earplugs.

I have no idea why they are rated so highly. Staff is friendly, the decor is kinda fun, pero The food is mediocre at best.
