great beach but you have to rent a motor bike to get everywhere
Too wet in January. Sights are beautiful though.
Most wonderful place with two volcanoes in an island.lake cocibolca is amazing.very cheap place.must visit
Two volcanoes make up this island and you can take a ferry over and enjoy the island beauty and relaxed vibe. There are wild animals everywhere, including white faced monkeys and wild horses roaming the beaches. Not every beach is perfect to swim at, but every angle of the island is definitely beautiful. You can hike the volcanoes or simply find some beachside shade. But be warned, it's hot on Ometepe.
Make sure you spend at least 3 days on this fascinating island. Lots to do for kids and adults. Best area for accommodation and food is around the Balgue area. Island is big, plan your transport.
Ometepe, in itself, is just an average island with average scenery and average beaches. Other than the trek up Volcan Concepcion, it offers few good things to do. Simply put, it is over-hyped.
Most magical place I've ever visited.
Love the island for its simple way of life
This was my favourite place I visited during my week in Nicaragua. Worth the sketchy ferry ride across. The biodiversity is unreal and the people are spectacular. The cost of food and entertainment are also cheaper than San Juan del Sur for example. The island felt super safe and we were able to drive around with a small car, which we thought was going to be challenging and wanted a 4x4, but we were fine.
Ometepe island has been our favorite place in Central America! From the beauty of nature, to the delicious cuisine, the people here make this place special! We are travelers, not tourist. Spending time to explore and get to know the locals is important. If you want an amazing experience, definitely go here! We will be back!
