Not sure what the place is rated so low. We ate a very good fish taco, good tostones and very cold beer. We got the food in 20 min but this is Nicaragua! the staff was very friendly and nice. Basic but decent place!

The worst service ever.Don't expect the staff to give you a hello, thank you or something else. Nobody cares about you. The only times they will speak to you is to ask for your money or tells you to don't use to much water because they have to pay for it.All the underwear of my girlfriend where robbed. The staff wasn't shocked as if it was normal. We could even see a smile on they're faces. We stayed a week and no one came to clean the bathroom.The room is ok. But if you want to use the fan during the day to do a nap expect them to come yelling at your door.I've seen hundred of hostel but never been treat like that.

This rating is for the shop and the restaurant, not for the hostel itself. The people that run that place are not very friendly, generally dont seem to care if you need/want anything. But they have tasty and cheap breakfast as well as BBQ everyday. The little store doesnt have many things that you can buy, but it got the most necessary things. But they do have cigarettes. Like everywhere in Popoyo things are a little more expensive than in the rest of Nicaragua. Btw dont buy their "water" its collected rainwater that they put back into the canisters lol.

Worst hostel experience of our life.
We stayed there 5 nights at a time we were really traveling on a budget (like really) :(
When we arrived at this hostel (after a long walk..), one of the employee showed us a room which didn't seem to have been cleaned for ages (full of sand, no toilet seat, etc.).
We were about to decline, but then the employee told us the price : 10$ for the room, which is very cheap.
We do speak fluent spanish so we were positive about it, we asked twice : so 5$ per person ? She answered yes, twice.
We weren't really excited about it but really needed to save money so we decided to stay anyway
We didn't enjoyed our stay there : it was noisy (loud music almost all day long), dirty (disgusting kitchen) and the staff was really unfriendly. But we were "OK" with that, regarding the price, and didn't complain at all.
The real problem appeared the day we left : we were asked to pay 16$ a night, not 10$. We couldn't believe it.
Staff had always been rude, but this time they were really agressive.
We tried to argue with them, swearing that they really told us 10$: no, there were nothing we could do. The best moment was when we tried to talk to the woman who showed us the room: she dared to say that it was our mistake, right on our faces!
This almost drove us crazy, and when we said that we wanted to pay the price they told us the first day, they threatened to throw away our luggages and surfboard.
We ended up paying 80$ in place of 50$ as we didn't really had the choice.
To be honest, I think 8$ is the normal price of the room, but we didn't know that. And if we did, we surely wouldn't have wanted to stay there. This hostel do not worth 8$ a night.
Fact is they used lies to make us stay, and finally threatened us to make us pay another price.
