The US Consulate General is located on No. 2 Walter Carrington Cres, Victoria Island 106104, Lagos
It is a High-security environment where both vehicular and human traffic is regulated. It is also a stunning to look at facility. Much of the building is tucked away from public view by high fences, but the part that is open to view is beautiful to behold.
I came here for a visa drop box appointment and was promptly instructed to go to another office in Victoria Island for that exercise.
The Consulate handles a load of visa processing activities and other consular services.
To say the least, it is one busy environment that only comes to rest on public holidays.
Outside the building get ready to taste a flavor of Nigerian law enforcement agents peculiarities. But once you get inside the building, the atmosphere changes to welcome you to the United States of America.

The security is tight. Phones and cameras are not allowed within the premises. There are about 3 levels of security and documents checks before access into the main interview hall.

Police presence is heavy. Don't take out anything electrical, e.g. a mifi, in their presence to avoid being questioned.

Reading through todays punch newspaper i was very pleased to see the united states contribution through Mandella-Washinghton fellowship program in Academic coursework, leadership training and networking .thereby investing in the future of our Nation Nigeria and African in general .i personally appreciate this gesture as i also believe that our country Nigeria has a bright future in terms of human /capacity development if we concentrate on our youths since our leaders of yesteryears and today has failed us .many thanks to the united states of America and God bless America for the role she has been playing all around the world

Highly secured with armed security officers and cctv at every corner. You really need to have a definite and cogent reason for going close to the embassy because you might be randomly picked and interrogated for loitering.

If applying for visas, you need to behave in an orderly manner and ready to obey instructions from the security and visa officers.

Highly secured environment swarmed with security personnel. Orderliness is paramount here as I wait in the queue for my turn to go into the Embassy. The car park is external and it’s for a fee. The consulate is directly opposite a jetty used by some of the staff. Cameras are not allowed here(thus no picture for my review). The staff are friendly in a stern way due to the crowd that don’t adhere to instructions sometimes, generally if you follow their instructions you’ll be in an out in good time.

If you indicated on the website that your collection center should be Abuja, just forget about it! My documents were left in Lagos, and even after someone helped by proxy on July 14, we had to pay some more money for DHL to get it down to Abuja. Apparently they are the only ones who could still send it down without opening the DO-NOT-OPEN sealed envelope. That was so not cool!
A few minutes before 7:00 on July 5, 2017, most applicants were left drenched as there wasn't enough provision made for the rains. Then the attendants that confirmed the appointment were very disorganized and understaffed such that most people who came in much later were made to get in for the interview before a few of us that arrived a lot earlier. The CGR that welcomed me into the interview hall wasn't observant enough to have directed me to the section for Immigrants and that took another 30 minutes from the whole process - and this was just a little above 7:30 in the morning. One of the guards on the Immigrants section was extremely rude to a senior citizen and stopped him from sitting when he asked to be seated nicely.
However, the officers that took our photographs, passports and necessary documents were friendly. The interviewer was nice, polite and friendly too.

I was selected to install a fire alarm system here. While the job was not completed, the time I spent here was very intense, and all of the people I had the pleasure to work with, were professionals. The weather was extremely crazy. It is, after all Africa, so I knew it would be hot.
Still, the work was eye-opening, and the security was nothing less than excellent, while on site.
The daily commute to and from our compound, was another story. The vehicles we had at the time, were less than reliable. On occasion, they left us stranded, and the streets are not safe. I had weapons pointed at me more times than I could recall, so I eventually left to return to the safety of my home in the USA.
