Umuoke Village Hall is a gathering place for the people of Umuoke within Umunwanwa Community in Umuahia. This is a hall built through communal efforts and is one of the first modern hall built within the neighbourhood.
Umuoke is the smallest of the hamlets in Umunwanwa and prided itself as the most united and most enterprising in the recent past. Issues of concern are tabled in the hall under an able chairman and his executives. The elders have their reserved seats in the hall, the youths have their designated seats to sit and listen to discussions. the youths function as a pressure group to ensure that orders made and agreed on the floor are not flouted. Periodically, the women join their mensfolk at discussions to ensure there is peace and order.
Once a year, the Umuoke people hold their annual conference in this great hall. About the end of every year, this conference attracts sons and daughters of the area living outside the state. They gather in their numbers to hear how those at home have faired during the current year whilst they, in turn, report on their own well being outside their state.
In the immediate past, the people of Umuoke had organised fund-raising to help out their brilliant children whose parents are not capable of sustaining them at Secondary and Tertiary institutions. In this area, the people of Umuoke has shown the light to other hamlets and communities around them.
Umuoke provided tourist attractions in the past but since their only link road with the state capital was abandoned by the contractors who had destroyed the community-built drains, this once proud and progressive hamlet has suffered setbacks. Many of the villagers are locked in their houses by gully erosion which has rendered their only road impassable.
The greatest desire of the people of Umuoke is that one day, the government of the day will heed their cries and gives them an all seasonal road linking them to their state capital and their neighbours across the Imo River in Imo State.response / report this review
