This is the only Catholic Parish in Oguta with St Jude Parish Egwe which was an out-station created a parish few years ago. Sacred Heart Catholic Church has a long history that dates as far back as 1940s where the early Irish Missionaries used Oguta as a station to reach Emekuku, Owerri. Today, a relic of this historic Church is the rectory which was built with a wood decking, something considered rare in the modern Nigerian architecture.
This historic Church is the home parish to and thus associated with significant figures like Bishop Anthony Gogo Nwedo, C.s.Sp; Fr. Peter Anozia, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, Chief Arthur Nzeribe and lots more.
Today, this Catholic Church on the land of the famous Oguta Lake has worn a new look after expansions and renovations designed by Arch. & Engr. Wellington Okam.
Oguta as a town is in itself a beautiful place to visit at least once in a life’s time. A visit to Oguta would be complete with a visit to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a worship at the Church would find its joyful completion in a visit to the town and the Oguta blue lake.
