  Extortion to say the least! Took my car in for AC repairs some time ago. After conducting a diagnostic, they gave me an invoice which literally left me nonplussed (considering what was said to be wrong with the AC). At first, I didn't quite mind because I expected it to be good value for money. How mistaken I was. I ended up having to take it back for repairs a couple of times after and was made to pay extra despite having been offered a warranty the first time. Still no solution.
  
  Of course, i didn't require a brain transplant to realise that they were clueless as to what the issue really was. I ended up getting my car fixed with a 'regular' mechanic, who immediately knew what was wrong and got it fixed for about a third of the amount that carmax charged.
  
  I immediately realised that carmax didn't necessarily have bad intentions, but simply lacked the expertise. If they knew they weren't experienced enough, why bother to charge such an amount. I wouldn't have felt half as bad if I had wasted less money.
  
  My advice to anyone reading this is that going to carmax guarantees you one of two things:
  
  1. Spend ×2(or greater) the amount you ordinarily would to get your car fixed and the issue would not get resolved.
  
  2. Spend ×2(or greater) the amount you ordinarily would and the issue gets resolved.
  
  The choice is yours.

  Terrible experience , I had an accident and my front right wheel needed repairs and change. After a lag of two days they came with a bill of N1.5 million naira. I told them the bill was ridiculous and insane. I was then charged 30k before the release my car. Daylight extortion. I have repaired my car at the near by ojota mechanic village and I did not spend up 120k in all.

  I always use Carmax. I have used them for the past two years, never had any issue with my car, except minor battery and tyre changes.

  Phenomenally terrible service. Had a car taken in for what should be a simple repair of the spark plugs. They created a ridiculous bill for over half a million Naira, and charged 15,000 for the diagnostics.
  I was hoping it would be a professional organization but their practices are qualifiable by only one word - extortion.
  So if you're feeling adventurous or you simply didn't work for the money you're spending, ride on over to carmax and have a jolly good time.
